Homemade Cheese

A simple and beginner-friendly recipe to make delicious homemade cheese using basic ingredients like milk and acid.

Ingredients

  • 1 liter full-fat milk
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice or white vinegar
  • A pinch of salt (optional)
  • Cheesecloth or muslin cloth
  • Colander
  • Heavy-bottomed pot

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into a heavy pot and slowly bring it to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once bubbling, reduce heat and gradually add lemon juice or vinegar, stirring slowly.
  3. Watch the curds form within a minute or two.
  4. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture through a cheesecloth-lined colander over a large bowl.
  6. Rinse the curds under cold water and gently squeeze out excess liquid.
  7. For firmer cheese, tie the cloth and place a weight on top for 30-60 minutes.
  8. Add salt to taste and mold into a block or crumble as needed.

Notes
