  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese For a classic flavor.
  • 2 oz Gruyère or mozzarella cheese Mix soft and hard cheeses for optimal melt.
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise For spread on the outside for a crispy texture.
  • 1 tbsp butter Spread on the inside of the bread for flavor.
Optional Fillings
  • 2 slices ham For a protein addition.
  • 1 cup caramelized onions Adds sweetness to contrast the cheese.
  • 2 tbsp fig jam or sliced apples For a sweet and savory twist.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Spread mayonnaise on the outside of each slice of bread.
  2. Spread butter on the inside of each slice of bread.
  3. Layer the cheeses on the inside of the sandwich.
  4. Add any optional fillings as desired.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C).
  2. Place the sandwich in the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, checking at the 6-minute mark for doneness.
  4. If desired, flip gently halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping.
