Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, mixing until thoroughly combined.
  3. Gradually incorporate the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. Use leaf-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are just lightly golden.
  5. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
Decorating
  1. Dust cooled cookies with powdered sugar for a simple finish.
  2. For a glaze, mix powdered sugar with a little water and food color, then drizzle over cookies.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to a week. Enhance flavor with additions like chopped nuts or cinnamon sugar on top.
