Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder; gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, until well blended.
  5. If desired, divide the batter and mix in food coloring for a fun design.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool before decorating with fondant or frosting as per your theme.
  8. Add personalized cake toppers and decorations to finish the look.
