Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg.
- Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and stir with a fork until shaggy.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently squish together.
Baking
- Pat dough into a round, cut into wedges, and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding raisins or orange zest to the dough. Scones keep fine in an airtight container for two-ish days, but fresh is best. Unbaked scones can be kept in the freezer and baked from frozen, just add a couple extra minutes.
