Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and maple syrup until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mixing until just combined.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out shapes using a maple leaf cookie cutter.
Baking
- Place the cut-out cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are light golden and the centers are just set.
- Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
Filling Assembly
- In a separate bowl, mix the softened butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth and creamy.
- Spread or pipe the filling onto the flat side of one cookie and top it with another cookie to make a sandwich.
