- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan)/Gas 6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour, salt, and baking soda together.
- Gradually pour in the buttermilk, mixing with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf.
- Place the dough onto the baking tray and score a deep cross on top with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow the soda bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use fresh baking soda for the best rise and handle the dough gently to avoid a dense loaf.
