  • 1/2 cup cold butter Straight from the fridge
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries Use what you have
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest The real deal, not bottled
  • 1/4 cup orange juice Freshly squeezed preferred
  • 1/4 cup sugar Go easy, the glaze will sweeten it up
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Don't forget it!
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream Don't use water, your taste buds will haunt you
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For the glaze

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Rub in the cold butter using your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, orange zest, and orange juice.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  7. Pat the dough into a rough circle and cut it into wedges.
  8. Place the scones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest. Drizzle over the hot scones.

Notes

Serve slightly warm. Enjoy with black coffee or strong tea. Add extra glaze if desired.
