Method

Preparing the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine the yeast and warm buttermilk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and beet juice to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Making the Filling and Rolling
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle.
  3. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon mixture evenly.
  4. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice it into equal pieces using dental floss or a sharp knife.
Baking
  1. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between each roll.
  2. Cover the rolls and let them rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Frosting and Serving
  1. In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Once the rolls are cool, generously frost them with the cream cheese frosting and serve warm.

Notes

Experiment with different frostings like a white chocolate glaze or a lemon zing for a fresh twist. Patience is key in the dough rising process to achieve the best texture.
